Edged with the canal of Willebroek, the district constitutes the old working-class and industrial heart of the city. Split by the railway junction Nord-Midi and mutilated by the “Manhatan Plan”, it is structured around the gare du Nord, where dozens of thousands of commuters, coming from the four corners of the country, rush everyday in order to work in the office-towers… To such an extent, that we sometimes forget it still remains above all a popular, immigrants’ quarter. A quarter full of contrasts, and a film which is not less contradictory…
