Documentary cinema: multiple visions and representations

In partnership with the Ligue de l’Enseignement et de l’Education Permanente, the CVB plays a role in the study of issues surrounding documentary cinema.

From June 2008 a series of articles run by Cyril Bibas in the magazine Eduquer (at first quarterly and now monthly) has been published with the purpose of enlightening readers about the documentary approach.

Whether ethnographic, scientific or political films, whether focusing on social issues or autobiographical aspects, the forms of the documentary are myriad. Confronted with this plurality of forms and content types, these pages attempt to sketch out a field of reference - made up of diverse perspectives and practices – rather than give a definition of documentary cinema which would by its nature have to be restrictive.

The CVB has also coordinated an important paper on the topic of On-Screen Education in Belgium (Eduquer no. 65).

Future articles, which may be on a particular theme or allow a producer a free hand to express his or her views, will develop this exploration.
